Hand Anatomy Superficial




As these two diagrams show the extensors and flexors on the hand mirror those for the elbow found on the wrist. The hand flexors originate on the medial anterior side and insert on the anterior side of the hand. The hand extensors originate on the lateral posterior side and insert on the posterior hand.


Movements of the hand and the muscles invonved in these movements can be observed in the active movement video.

The majority of muscles which act on the hand originate at the elbow. The anatomy of the elbow must be consulted in any attempt to understand their location and action.
